ok. so i see an update to allow more than 20 thumbs up, i like that
i see things 4 or more arent hidden, i also like that
i dont like the style that the comments pop up in
i dont like the persistent social crap on the left side
i dont like "look at these comments, people thumbed them up"
i dont like how i have to go to the forum to reply to people
i dont like how it changed in genneral compared to how it was before
i dont like how at least one article (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-700...) has no comment section at all
it really feels like you are trying to stop conversations in the comment section with this, unless this is a beta implementation and not all features are fully fleshed out yet, than please take the 2 likes i have about it, and the 6 things i don't like into consideration for change.

id have to agree, the new updated comments section is much worse compared to the old system, the only benefit is that you get to go over the + 20 cap on comments and below - 4 comments aren't hidden like they was before, this new comments system is totally screwed up, im getting comments that ive read before all over the place as i scroll down and they are not double posts and im using the latest web browsers and tried different browsers to make sure it wasnt a glitch with that browser, i also hate the "click for more comments" because when i do the comments go even more all over the place and not in order of date like they should be, i prefered the numbered pages compared to the click for more comments as it wasnt such a mess,
i do hope that this is either a beta of the new comments section and just a trial run or you go back to the old system which was 100x better because you could actually have a conversation and discussion using that comments system compared to this garbled random mess of comments and bad so called upgrade.
and not having a comments section for one of the most interesting articles about the gtx 700 series not being released until 2014 is a really bad decision as half of the reason most people visit toms hardware is for the comments and views that other people have about whats going on in the world of tech, i do believe that if the new comments system stays this way then toms hardware readers will go elsewhere due to not being able to talk and comment like they use to.

I'm dictating this to Dragon so keep that in mind for anything that looks wrong, my hands are really hurting today and using the keyboard is kind of not happening.
As it currently stands there's a bug that won't allow me to receive emails whenever a new comment is posted on a topic I also comment on, this is a bug that they at least said they were working on. Because I'm not getting email updates my reason to really post comments is kind of gone because I can't reply to people if they say something new I can't keep up with topics because I don't really like all the reforms just to check to see if anything's updated.
I've used the unofficial chrome extension for Tom's, while it works I don't like having an extra button up on the top of chrome unless it's absolutely necessary and even when I say that the extensions are garbled mess because I can't say forget everything from the past I just want to see everything from this moment on so it's kind of a pain to use that to.
With the new comment system it really feels like they want to step away from actually having discussions in the comments and just have comments for comments sake. The comments at the top of the discussion the most like the ones really just feel like they are out of context when they're up there and even wondered there this system it is abuse heavy because something that could be stupid would be top comment while something thoughtful might not be. But even beyond that taking out the replies from the comments section but I can't reply to somebody anymore that's also a fairly big problem and makes me think they want to step away from actually having conversations. It also makes me call into question if not receive an email update for comments is really a bug and added deliberate design choice, really hope it is a bug because I like coming here for conversations about technology more than just the news about technology.
Now I really like that we can go over 20 thumbs up and you don't hide anything more than four thumbs down anymore because just because a comment isn't like my other people doesn't mean that it should be heading in might not be a popular opinion but somebody's opinion and I believe they are entitled to that I had opinions in the past where I know I'm going to be thumbs down I even say in the comment it doesn't make my point any less valid and should be hidden because that.
Like I said I really hope this is a beta test and you take the really good things like more thumbs up and no hitting comments and get rid of everything else that I personally didn't like.

+1 alidan and DEVILVSANGEL00
Also randomly getting "An Error has Occured" when posting. may be related to the above authentication error.
That's exactly what's happening to me, too. For 2 days now, I've been trying to comment on Tom's Guide, and have had no success so far ("An error has ocurred"). I even tried to answer in the forum instead of the article's comment section, and I get a "You do not have the required permissions" message.
Example: I click on the forum link on http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Russia-Piracy-CAS-FAPMC-Vladimir-Grigoryev,news-16924.html, and I am getting re-directed to http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1649335/russia-holding-downloaders-liable-piracy.html, where the error message I mentioned is displayed.
Update: I decided to try again, and it seems to have worked! I still get the permissinons message when trying to access the forum, though! Even more crazy.

Additionally I get the errors "This webpage has a redirect loop" and "Error 310 (net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS): There were too many redirects." sometimes instead of authentication failed.
I am now able to post on the toms guide articles, but I am still unable to access the forums. I am working with their moderators now, and if I am able to get this fixed, I will reply here with what I did, or ask them to look at your account as well if its something on their end.

Posting on Tom's Guide still doesn't work for me, my only success has been the one I reported in my previous post. Also, I am, too, denied access to the forum. Thank you very much for your help.

I have been working with multiple moderators attempting to get my access restored but am still having some Issues. I have found workarounds for most of them, and at this point I'm not sure if my issues are related to my ban or some sort of larger permissions issue with the new Forums.
I have plenty of patience and with change always comes growing pains. If there is anything I can do to help, I'm willing to be a guinea pig.
Thanks for looking into this.

I see that this thread is a little old, so I apologize if this is kind of necroposting.
I'm trying to get used to the new system, and I do recognize some good in it. I like the new "Notifications" drop down at the top. And while I don't use the "tags" system, I can see how some people might benefit.
But I really don't like the disconnect between the front-side comments and back-side forum posts. First, I'd really like to see the old link back in place that would take you to the forum section for the article you just read. If I want to read through them all, respond to a few, etc, I have to navigate and search through the forum, find the article, and then type up a response.
Second, I'm a little confused as to why we can vote up or down in the comments, but not on the forum itself. It's a small thing, but kinda irritating.

The link between the article commentary and the forum thread itself still exists! Just click the little button with the quotes to take you directly to the article on the forum. Comment voting is available in the article commentary as a way to filter things out - whereas in the forum itself, this isn't needed as much because of the availability of the Best Answer option.

the button to go from comments to forums isn't there for every post though. i think its toms guide posts don't have a forum link, not sure if they ever had a forum because i only really recently started using that area once i determined that the current comment system is broken beyond what i consider useable, and those ones need it the most because for some reason even if there are more than 3 comments only 3 comments displays for me and with no way to go to forums... i think you see the picture.

Gotta agree. Being "The Authority On Tech" this is absolutely terrible. Many times the comments no longer show up until you click on the comment link which then takes you to the forum. You're turning more and more into Microsoft, trying to fix things that aren't broke. The spam filters are awful and I see more and more of the "totally agree with Dave and never..." you get the point. Fix the English while you're in there, "There is 0 comments" is not correct. Just changing that to "There are XX comments" fixes the whole phrase. Been here for quite awhile and this is just a terrible redesign that never should have made it past the staging site.

the fact is that this sight is slow for news, i use to come here because you could easily hold a conversation in the comments. now... the comment section is broke, and the forum isn't picking up the same amount of people that the comments did.
i can say for a fact i come here less and less now because of the redesign.

just a note, and it probably never had a forum, but news articles on tomshardware are also linked to tomsguide
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Amazon-Public-Policy-Resear...
a specific one, where because there is no forum link, i can't reply to anything without doing that stupid @name thing...

If you are logged in on Tom's Guide, you are logged in on Tom's Hardware. There's a button to the right of the number of comments, a little blue (or red if on TH) that takes you to the forum thread itself in article commentary, even on Tom's Guide.
We're still working out some of the minor issues with refresh for article commentary, so do pardon our dust in the interim.
