Hi together,

I just overclocked my new PC using "OC Tuner" . Afterwards, i started the Prime95 stest for around 11h. I checked the status after 6.5h and everthing looked fine. When i came back after 11h i got (strange) messages:

1) According to Asus Thermal -Tool my motherboad has "-1" Degrees :)
2) in the right bottom -corner of my screen i had a pop up stating something like "Warning 12.850V However, within the Thermal-Tool it was said 12.000V

After rebooting everthing seemed to be fine again (also i just had around 1h to test it afterwards with running Prime95 for around 15-30m)

Do you have any ideas?

Thanks a lot
MP

My specs:
Sabertooth x79
3930k @ 4.17 - with 33x 126.xx

Holy shit, your BCLK is 126? That isn't good. It's affecting your whole system, not just your CPU. And don't use auto OC utilities like "OC Tuner" because they are not very reliable, and mess with your voltages, which could be a reason for this stuff.

Set everything back to stock settings, and if you want to OC, read up on it:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1291703/ivy-bridge-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboards

That is meant for Ivy Bridge, but the settings will be around the same. You want to stick with only raising your multiplier for OCing your CPU.

EDIT: Here, a SB-E OC guide: http://www.overclock.net/t/1189242/sandy-bridge-e-overclocking-guide-walk-through-explanations-and-support-for-all-x79-overclockers

Thanks for your feedback and the links - i will definitifly have a look at it! But regarding the BCLK - i quite often read (also in reviews of the sabertooth x79) that they use around 125. Thus, i was not wondering after asus oc tuner changed my values accordingly. mh, i will check

i just found the source i read it:

"Luckily for us, Sandy Bridge-E made some other changes that affect overclocking. While normal Sandy Bridge platforms use a bclk of 100MHz, the Sandy Bridge Extreme can use a bclk of 100MHz, 125MHz, 166MHz, or 250MHz. Just crunching the numbers, if that 4x the bclk ratio is in effect, then with the multiplier at 43, as it was for the single core turbo overclock with the 100MHz bclk, we are looking at a potential overclock of 5.375GHz with a bclk of 125MHz, 7.138GHz at a 166MHz bclk, and 10.75GHz at a 250MHz bclk. Obviously, pushing the bclk to 250MHz, or even 166MHz, is really out of the question. Even using the base clock as the multiplier at 3.6GHz, you're trying for a 5.9GHz overclock with the 166MHz bclk. But 125MHz bclk is right up our alley."
