Ive been looking at parts for a gaming computer, and have been trying to find this answer, Given that the Mobo (ASUS Sabertooth X79) I'm eyeing has an LGA2011 CPU socket, while the CPU itself is an AM3+ (AMD FX-8350 Vishera)

You can not use an AM3 processor with a socket lga 2011 mother board. LGA 2011 is an Intel platform while the am3 processor is AMD. You should find a good am3 or am3+ motherboard for your cpu. LGA 2011 only accepts Intel processors such as an I7 3820, I7 3930k, I7 3960x etc, which are premium expensive processors that out preform any am3 processor

Go to pcpartpicker.com...register and start with your CPU...the AMD FX8350...once you select it, go down to motherboards and click to view them. All the motherboards you see will be AMD compatible, just make sure you pick one with either a 970 or 990 chipset, most will be clearly marked. Though in Asus motherboards, it's usually either a 97 or 99 in their model number (for example M5A99 or M5A97)
