Why do i have to download a game (on steam) when i have the disc?

I have bought Metro 2033, on disc. Yet when i go to install it, it wants to bloody download it on Steam! using my monthly data allowance. What happened to games just installing form the dam DISC??

The game is not downloading dude...Your stem might be just updating. or otherwise the game might me downloading some DLC. So, u can open steam in offline mode and then try opening the game from the root folder
