First let me state my setup as of now:

CPU: 2500k @ 4.3
GPU: 2X560ti Sli (here lies the main problem)
RAM: 8gb 1600mhz
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
PSU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KCNYXG/ref=oh_deta...
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
so my problem is that my graphics cards are running way too hot. the top one within 5 minutes of playing MOST games is between 85 and 90c while the bottom hits about 80c. Now my friend wants to buy one of my cards off me for 150, so i want to get a new card, problem is that my mobo doesnt support pci 3.0. what should i do? i could sell both mobo and gpu for 200 to him and buy a new mobo and new graphics card, or i could just buy a 580gtx. what should i do? dont really wanna spend alot but not sure if thats an option since i dont wanna drop performance.

PCI-E 3.0 cards support 2.0 and 1.0 motherboards without issues but a bit slower.

Do n't bump posts or the Mods will come knocking on your account with the Ban Hammer!
Not sure how performance will compare to dual 560s but the GTX670 is top dog here, it's only a little slower than the 680 but costs less and a single 660Ti will be a fair bit slower.
The card will suffer a TINY performance drop by not having a PCI-E 3.0 connection it's more likely to b held back by the CPU (meaning not much either ;)  ) either way it's really not worth the cost and effort to replace the motherboard.
If there's room you could try to run a GTX670 as main card and the second 560 for PhysX but if that's going to starve the 670 of air then I would n't bother.
To clarify:, I would suggest you sell one 560 and get a GTX670. If possible, or sensible, use the second 560 for PhysX, if not you can either E-bay it or keep it as a spare.
