I have just received and installed a brand new Western Digital WD15EVDS 1.5TB drive.

Booting to Gparted from a CD with only this drive conneced it shows in GParted as

Model: ATA WDC WD15EVDS-63V
Size : 465.78 GiB
Path: /dev/sda

Partition Table: unrecognised
Heads: 255
Sectors/track: 63
Cylinders: 60804
Total Sectors: 976817134
Sector size: 512

size seems all wrong to me, am I missing something obvious or is it faulty on arrival.

thanks

Bob

Hi Andy

No, have performed no operations on it at all, I expected to see an unallocated partition size of the order of 1.4TB or thereabouts.

I've just put it in a USB disk caddy onto my WinXP machine disk manager also reports the same size.

thanks

Bob

You have the Sata and Power Connector in right?

Can you make sure the only hard drive that's plugged in the label says it's the Western Digital WD15EVDS 1.5TB drive.

Who knows, it's possible they could've switched items from the box. Usually HDD's wouldn't come faulty like that. Could most likely be a old HDD that's still in there? Or you inserted wrong drive.

Anyways try continuing into the installation, to the part where it would ask you if you would partition. Choose the advanced installation and try to see if the 400gb is just part of the 1.5tb that's partitioned.

hi

tried to embed this image in prev reply but forum wouldn't allow, so here's the link

Gparted see's the correct drive description as is on the label.

I'm thinking the drive's faulty, have contacted seller awaiting reply.

Bob

Well it definitely isn't a 1.5tb hard drive. it's just a standard 500gb HDD

It's unallocated because its a new bare drive. Where did you buy this Hard Drive?

and no it doesn't seem to be faulty. Just a different hard drive.
