Im building a smaller rig as a alternate workstation for me and I'm building it with extra parts I have from old builds etc. On my main system I run a 3 monitor setup and its GPUS are a gtx 570 for my main screen and the card I use to game, and a gtx470 for the left/right monitors.

For the smaller rig I'm building now, I wanted to take out the gtx470 from the main rig n install it onto this smaller one im building and then use either a gt430 or a gt640 to hold the 2 side screens on the main rig. So essentially, replace the gtx470 on the main rig with a gt640 or gt430.

The problem is that no matter which card combo I use on the main system, the gtx570/gt640 or gtx570/gt430 , the side screens never get picked up on the main rig. Only the main comes to life on every restart. To test, I have another media pc attached to my tv and I've tested both the 430 and the 640 and by themselves, they work.

Now if I put the 470 back in the main, then alls good and the side screens turn on. Any idea why this is happening? Ideally I want to put the gtx470 on the smaller new build so I can game on it.

Thanks in advanced.

Heres the main problem: SLI

Some Nvidia cards can SLI with another, and those older versions you have can not do that. Also, you can never run more than one GPU at a time unless you do SLI or crossfire. You best bet is to probably just put one in each and maybe do splitters off of one of the outputs, but that wouldn't be the best idea because of quality, video lag, and bottle necking your GPU with the monitors.

If you really want to upgrade, let me know what Mobo and PSU's you have, I may be able to help you with single and SLI on them.

Hello Gom3rpl3r, thanks for the reply, on both setups(work/home) although i have multiple video cards in my systems they are not SLI. Only reason i have multiple video cards in there is for the 3rd monitor.

You can run multiple GPUs at the same time, but they will work separately.

You may need to check your drivers to make sure they are the correct for the 2nd (430/640) and uninstall the old drivers for the old card.
