Graphics card upgrade

Recently I was given an old(ish) hp media pc, and it's motherboard is compatible with only Intel Core 2 Duo cpus, so I am settling on buying a 3.33GHz E8600 cpu. My question is though, what graphics card would you recommend to go with this cpu (note I want to be able to play most modern games on high), without bottlenecking the cpu, as it is quite old? Thanks.

  1. There is no way that you can play most modern games on high with that cpu.
something equivalent would be around HD7770, with that card you could run modern games at around low-medium settings.

you would atleast need an i3/i5 OR fx-6/8xxx series CPU to run modern games at those settings.

GPU would need to be something like ( "worst" to best in performance level )

    NVIDIA : GTX 660 / 660TI / 670

    AMD : HD7850 / 7870 / 7870XT / 7950
  2. Ok, thanks for the answer and quick response. Looks like I'll have to build a new one from scratch :/
