Sudden choppy videos.

For some reason my Hi-Res movies and videos are playing really choppy. I've tried multiple players ie VLC, WMP, Divx with no avail. I have an AMD FX 4100 quad core (3.6 ghz), an ASUS GT440 and 8 gigs of ram. My buddy messed around with overclocking the CPU and it hasn't been the same. I have since deleted the software he installed (MSI afterburner I think it was called) after resetting to default settings....(I think). Any words of wisdom?

msi afterburner is used for GPU overclocking, you do not overclock a cpu with software..
