The 4800 series were great cards in their time and I still have some respect for them today. A system i built for a friend in 09 with a core 2 quad and a 4830 still plays skyrim on high at 1080 res, granted no aa/as but still. It also plays devil may cry 5 on ultra at nice fps as well. The real limiting factor here would be the rest of your system is ancient and will drastically limit any respectable gpu to an unplayable state in modern games. What it really boils down to is what is your budget for all of this and what are you going to pay for that 4850, i wouldn't shell out more than $50 for it.

That board is already DDR3 and will support up to a core 2 quad. If you can find one for $50 or so I would suggest it as the most cost effective upgrade if your budget is limited as I'm guessing it is.

Otherwise my best suggestion would be to attempt to return the PC you bought and save for a bit to build something alont the lines of what twelve suggested as it will be much better suited to your needs.
