i've been lately thinking of getting a new CPU at around EU180 (+/- 20)

i now have my 750 OCed@3.70GHz with 8 gigs of 1600MHz DDR3 (OCed@~1900MHz) sitting on an ASRock P55 Deluxe3 with a 750W 80+ Gold PSU.

i'm mostly using my p.c. for gaming and some video encoding.

would it make any sense upgrading?

p.s. of course i know i should be getting a new mobo if i bought a new CPU but that's not what i'm asking ;)

p.s.2 i already ordered a new GPU, a GTX 660 2GB OC

At the same speed you might see a 15% performance boost going from the 1st generation Intel® Core™ processor to the 2nd generation Intel Core processors. The move to 3rd generation Intel Core processor might yeild around additional 6% in processing power. The problem with all of this is that when it comes to games the processor is secondary to the video card on performance. So you wont get any where close to the 20% performance boost when gaming that you might have gotten with something a little more processor based. So most likely the upgrade of the Intel Core i5-750 would be better off for a little later.
