I was wondering about which way to go. I currently have an Asrock 890fx deluxe5 with an 8350fx processor and a sapphire 7950. I was wondering which would yield a better performance on my system as far as gaming is concerned. An Asrock 970 Extreme4, which would speed up my read and write times on ssd. Or should I save more for the 990fx with pci-e 3.0 which would increase the use of graphics card speed. I would like the option of crossfire with the 7950 but it would be a bit of time before I could afford another. I have the 970 now that a friend gave me and was debating swapping the 890 fx for 970 or just wait and get the 990fx Asus board instead of changing boards twice. these are the boards:

I have installed Asrock 890fx Deluxe5: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157248

also have not installed Asrock 970 Extreme4: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157262

want to buy Asus Sabertooth 990fx: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131969

I went through this same exact situation for a week. The main question is do you overclock at all ? Almost every 970 board is 4+1 phase power systems which are honestly insufficient for FX CPU's if you overclock (with the exception of the Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 which is 8+2) The 4+1 systems just cant handle feeding an FX drawing 140-180 watts without overheating the VRM's and losing stability. My first boards was a, Asrock 970-U3S3 which would not handle 4.0Ghz from 3.6. Second board was MSI 970A-G46 which couldn't hold 4.2 without overheating the VRM's and the 3rd was an Asrock 970 Extreme 4 which could do 4.5 Ghz but generated so much heat in the VRM's doing so it would wash to the CPU and push my temps to the mid 60's. I had enough so I bought a good mid range Asus M5A99FX Pro R 2.0 with 8+2 phase for $150 and BANG i have a 4.5Ghz OC with 1.36 vcore (the extreme 4 needed 1.42) and my temps are in the mid 40's not mid 60's.

Well, I tried the 970 and come to find out that it did not like my 8350 and 1866 ram at all. Nothing but problems trying to install win8. Once I finally got it installed, it would only read ram at 1333 speed along with cpu at 3.8 GHz. I had enough problems and went back to my 890 fx deluxe 5 and had No issues what so ever and everything is installing just fine. I appreciate the input and to answer your question, I will be overclocking sometime (not while I was installing) in the near future. So, I guess I will be waiting and get the 990fx in the future. Thank you for your response. It makes perfect sense.
