Hello tom's hardware.. firstly id like to thank everyone on here who shares their knowledge for providing endless amounts of information which ive read alot of over the last few month since getting my new pc.. probably should have come here before buying it, but nevermind..

I bought an 8-core amd 8320 with 32gb ram and an HD7750 4gb with the intention of buying a second 7750 at a later date.
but after reading alot of posts on the HD7750 most of them not too good, im now wondering what would be the best option, either to get a second GPU or a new card for less than £200ish.

if I went for a second gpu would it be best to stick to a 7750 or could I get a 7770 or something that'll be better?

i use 3dMark when overclocking but also come across novabench which seems to be good for comparing my computer against others.. ive seen people on there using HD7750 graphics cards with twice the result I get and better results than the average GTX680 so im wondering if perhaps they could be using 2x 4gb hd7750's in which case it would be much better for me to get a second 7750 or like?

with novabench (they seem to use there own fps scoring system and don't tell when someone is running multiple gpu) with no OC I get 580 3d frames per second, the GTX560 gets 553 and GTX470 gets 590.. when I fully OC the 7750 I get 763 fps on novabench, which I know isn't an indication of what I'd get in-game but I don't think this card is too bad, but it doesn't run Hawken in ultra at 1920x1080 too well.

so my question is would I get good results from an additional 4gb 7750 or xfire with an alternative card or get a completely new card for £200-£250?

Normally what I'd recommend is to get an HD 7770 and crossfire it with 7750 for enhanced performance (=7850), but i'm not big fan of CFX mainly because of the hassles (Micro stuttering, game compatibility, driver support).

Also you need a good mobo with at least two pcie x16 slots for cfx/sli, and strong psu to run two cards (quality brand 600w minimum ).

In my opinion you better get a single 7850 or 7870 XT (or myst edition if powercooler).

BEST LUCK

could I crossfire a 7850 with my 7750?
would I end up losing some of the ram or is there another card I could use with 4gb?

the 7750 I have has 4gb ram, so id rather not be downgrading it if I could otherwise utilise it. and novabench puts my card on par with the average 7800 series, it also rates my card higher than a gtx560 and 2-3 times the rating of a 1gb 7750

You shouldn't have problems crossfire GDDR3 Card w/ GDDR5 one, But regarding the 4GB vRAM ... it's not that important because you need a lot of Horsepower to benefit from that kind of ram (can HD 6670 2gb outperform HD 7850 1GB !!!!)
The amount of memory does not effect performance (benchmarks, FPS) unless you're running multiple monitors( 3+).
The memory speed (e.g GDDR5) and bandwidth is more important.

The Radeon 7750 2GB is a GDDR3 video card. And the 7750 1GB is GDDR5. I've never seen a 7750 with more than 2gb.
Where in the world did you find a 4GB 7750 ?!!!

in your opinion do NVidia's stack better with sli? ive seen a number of reports saying they're about the same, you might get better performance from one or the other depending on what game etc

Crossfire is problamatic because of the frames variences. This means that with crossfire you wouldn't get a stable framerate because the fps would drop very frequently. Performace wise they are very similar.

thanks for the info and that very interesting link on the GPU comparisons, since your advice ive been looking at different 7950, infact 24 variance's most with slightly different specs but all 3gb, 386bit.
would it be better to get a card that has
XFX Radeon HD 7950 Double Dissipation, GPU Clock Speed:800 MHz, Max Resolution Details: 2560 x 1600, Max Resolution: 4096 x 3112 (why does it display two different max res?)
or
Radeon HD 7950 royalKing, GPU Clock Speed: 880 MHz, RAMDAC: 400 MHz, Memory Clock: 500 MHz, Max Resolution: 4096x3112 pixels
or
7950 IceQ X² GPU Clock Speed: 850 MHz, Memory Clock: 5000 MHz, Max Resolution: 4096x2160 pixels
or
Flex HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 OC With Boost, GPU Clock Speed: 860 MHz, Factory Overclocked: Yes, Max Resolution: 4096x2160 pixels
or
Radeon HD 7950 Gigabyte, GPU Clock Speed: 900 MHz, Memory Clock: 5000 MHz, Max Resolution: 2560x1600 pixels
which would be best?, at this moment in time I do only use one monitor for gaming.

the Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 OC, (GPU Clock Speed: 900 MHz, Factory Overclocked: Yes, Max Resolution: 4096x2160 pixels.) is out of my price range at almost double the price of the afore mentioned cards

thank you for your input, I think ive decided on the 7950 RoyalKing.. it falls short of the fastest 7950 by 20mhz at the factory OC speed but allows upto 4 monitors rather than just 2. it runs a 880mhz core clock and a 930mhz boost clock, and has a nice looking cooler on it.
does a factory OC mean that it'll be covered by warranty even when running in boost?

any idea why the royal king states 400mhz ramdac and 500mhz memory clock but some of the others don't mention a ram dac and say 5000mhz memory clock? which is best?
