How to wipe hard drive and recover from partition ?

Hi, im looking to sell my laptop and wanted to completely clear the hard drive so no sensitive information could be accessed even with a recovery tool. How would I go about doing this whilst still maintaining windows 7 ? my computer is hp and there is a recovery drive D could I then boot from this and still have windows 7 ?
Any help is greatly appreciated

Invoking the Recovery from the D will completely blow away what is on C, and bring it back to just like when you brought it home from the store.

Thanks for your quick reply, so none of my old files will been able to be recovered ? How would I go about invoking the recovery from the d drive ?

After reading through this i cant see where this would be useful for my situation. There is not options to look at booting from the d ( recover drive) and clearing the rest of the data and leaving the computer as it was out of the box.
