I have a asus p6t regular with sli and crossfire 17 920 overclocked to 4.0 and I can't get sli to work between the 460 and 460 v2 It doesn't recognize both as sli but it does desperate I tried the sli hack that allows you to use 2 different gpu's it accepted it as sli but when I play a game or restart the screen goes black and stays black

since it is hacked there is 50/50 chance it will not work at all. why sli those 2? if you can't find exact match why not try to get something better than 460 itself? it might be cost a bit more but at least you don't have to go through something like you're having right now

I spent 80 each on both and I thought since they were both gtx 460 1 gig it would work not noticing it was a v2 model , what video card would you suggest that would be better then 460 sli?

gtx660ti or gtx670. that is for single card. if you want to get into sli then 660 (non ti) not too bad either. with rebate maybe you can get a pair of 660 cheaper than a single 670. if the game support sli properly 660 is faster than a single 680

Would over clicking the lower one help? Or is it because they have a different processor in them ? And why would they make two with the same name but not say on the box that they are different. The two boxes are identical

This is the problem with the naming scheme. Both cards carry gtx460 name but the chip and how they were configured to the pcb are different. Unlike crossfire sli is quite strict about sli compatibility. If you can return the card return one and ask the retailer to replace the card to match your other one. Since the original 460 has been long being EOLed you might want to keep 460 v2 and replace your 460 with 460v2.
