CPU prices question

so i dont know alot about CPU's, graphics card and all are ok i understand what they do and what to look for when i get one. but CPU's on the other hand, i just look for the number of cores and the amount of Ghz each one has. so can someone please explain why amd's 8 core 4 Ghz is tons cheaper than intel i7 3960x 6 core 3.3Ghz one, the amd one is around 200 bucks and i7 being 800++ $ . please be as detailed as you can :]
