My philips TV wont power on unless i turn on my computer

I am using Philips 5000 series as a computer monitor cum TV. My TV won't come on unless i turn on my computer. If i plug out the vga cable, it works fine. What is the issue? Please help...

Are the plugged into the same wall socket? It sounds more like a dodgy wall socket than anything else. Have you tried plugging in the TV in a different location?

Will it just not power on at all, or do you get any sort of response from the TV when you press the power button (LEDs, messages etc)
