Hello

I have an old desktop PC which has started to struggle recently performance wise. I've got the max memory installed (2gig) and I'm now looking at getting the best possible CPU as a 'last chance' upgrade before I have to think about replacing the whole PC.

The options for upgrading the CPU are quite confusing, I was hoping someone with a bit more knowledge could point me in the direction of the fastest CPU for my motherboard.

This is my motherboard: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pro...uID=16&LanID=0

My current CPU is a dual core Pentium D 2.80

I've got my eye on this CPU http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1510282077...84.m1423.l2649

Is this a good choice, or can I get better?

Thanks

Your motherboard is not going to give you very high performance. It only supports 4GB of DDR2-667 (which is VERY slow), USB 2.0, 1066MHz FSB speed, SATA 3Gb/s, and some old chipset I've never even heard of. I'd recommend you get a better processor--something from the iCore series--but you DEFINITELY should get a better motherboard.
