Internet connection slow + crashing

For the past month, my internet connection has been acting odd. Go back 4 months and everything is fine 24/7. Now I regularly have to wait 30 - 40 minutes and restart my router + modem in order to get a connection which is slow as hell half the time. If you couldn't tell, it's been getting on my nerves to say the least . The front usb ports on my haf 912 case seem to be a little flaky, and those are the only usb ports I have open. I am wondering if anyone knows what I need to do / replace to get my internet back to normal. I am currently using a d-link 125/130/140 wireless adapter (I don't remember which). I can provide more details on the weekend.

1> Have a good internet security--> update it----> Scan whole system. (Kaspersky saved me from your scenario)
2> View the router log for any trace of UDP flood/DoS attack. If its there disable logging.(DO IT AFTER NO 1)
3> Replace/tighten sata cables of hdds.
4> Use WPA in wireless network.
