Hey guys, my LG gdr8164b dvd rom drive that i just installed is not being identified. I even switched sata interface to ide in the bios and still nothing. I have a i7 2600k cpu oc'd to 4.4 GHZ, Antec Earthwatts 750w psu, 1tb seagate hdd, 8 GB RAM, asus p8z68-v pro gene3 mobo, Evga gtx 680 FTW+. Thanks for any help. I really rather not have to go in and change any registry entries

does it open and close? no - check ower connection.
does bios see it? no check sata cable & connection.
does device manager or drive manager see it? no - what message is it giving you?

This is a rather old drive, did you buy it used?

I bought it used: like new on amazon. It opens and closes and it doesn't show up in device manager. Thanks for the reply.

Where would it look for it in the bios?

Okay, thank you. So I went into Advanced>Sata section and I enabled every single Sata(there were a bunch of them) option. Is this what you were saying to do? Device Manager and Drive Manager is not seeing the drive still..Should I enable IDE mode in that section? If not that should I open my comp and disconnect the drive and reconnect or something?

fulll shut down and when you start up again go right into the bios and see if the bios lists the dvd drive. It should be in the same area that you see your hard drive listed. If you do see it there then go ahead and exit and let windows boot up. install a disk into it and then see if you see or can access the drive.

I just let it go. The drive was very cheap anyhow. Thanks a lot for your assistance though. Take care!
