Is it worth buying a GTX 660 considering the fact that i have a core 2 duo 2.9 Ghz? i'm planning to upgrade my cpu later but it's gonna be like in 2 years time cause money is an issue.

I'll be playing games like rage, crysis 3 and mass effect 3 at 1440*900 resolution.

Additional specs:
8gb DDR3 RAM
550W power supply

It will be bottlenecked a lot. Also crysis 3 is known to use multiple cores. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/crysis-3-performance-benchmark-gaming,review-32644-8.html
As you can see even a intel a g860 which is more powerful than your core 2 duo is struggling at 1080p and a 680. Save up some money and upgrade your motherboard and cpu.

Thanks for the fast reply.

And what cheap alternative would you suggest for my current system to play these games even on low settings at low resolutions?

Or maybe you could go with Nvidia and get a GT 640. They're decent.

Get a 7770 as a 2.9 core 2d will be enough to manage and the 7770 will have a little more power to carry through despite the cpu than a 7750. What board, ram, and cooler do you have so that maybe we can help you overclock a little further.

I have the stock cooler that came with the processor, biostar G41D3+ motherboard and cheap 1333 ddr3 Ram(nothing like the high perfomance brands)

Hope that helps

Might as wells start saving up for a new rig otherwise you'll be that much further away from being able to afford it. A good $500 for CPU, MOBO, and GPU

With 500 dollars to spend you could easily get an i5 and a gtx 660 and have more cash to spend.

You could also buy a secondhand core 2 quad if you feel that your cpu is too slow, but I agree with the others. You should save up and get a good rig in the future. Good luck! :)
