Upgrading a video card

I have an Asus P5E mobo with an nVidia 8800 gts 512 card in the PCIe slot. I have taken interest in a Dell UltraSharp U2713HM running at 265x1440. I like nVidia as a platform in general. Can anyone tell me if my P5E can handle the load from a newer GPU, and if so, what GPU would you recommend? I use my rig for gaming and multimedia, as well as Dreamweaver.

about $1000 if I am replacing the mobo chip ram and vid card.

ps.. its an xp machine. I would like to keep it that way if possible.

ok i'd wait till june and get an haswell i7 cpu and get whater motherboard you want

and for gpu i'd reccomend an radeon 7970 or if you prefer nvidia a 670
