Lookin at video cards for my current eyefinity build. Looking at 3 options

1 Radeon HD 7970-420-ish dollars
(With expectation of another down the road)

2 Radeon HD 7950-600-ish dollars

2 Radeon HD 7870's-500-ish dollars.

My question is this. For playing eyefinity will the 1 7970 play games at high res and high quality well enough to hold me until i save a little more money after i have everything else payed for? OR would it be better to go with the slightly cheaper option of 2 7870's or 7950's. I obviously want to play games on the best settings at the best fps possible so i feel like a 2 card setup is an obvious choice. A little help would be appreciated.

Two 7950's will be a lot faster than one 7970, but as ksham said AMD are currently having issues with Crossfire so your best bet is to probably buy a 7970 now and maybe buy a second one in the future.

Edit: As you mention eyefinity then yes 2 cards is probably the much better choice.
