3770k is newer and faster. 3770k is like 7-8% faster while taking like 30% less electricity. 3770k is ivy bridge 22nm cpu vs i7 3820 which is sandy bridge e cpu based on 32nm.

The i7 3770k is faster but if I were you, I'd wait for the i7 4770k coming out June 4th. You're going to get an a least 10% better CPU for the same price.

lol i don't think so, maybe i9 but it's very unlikely

core i8 and i9 mean nothing except different number. Intel have core i3 i5 i7 as there mainstream cpus from 1st gen to the new haswell cpu which will be 4th gen. Then after maybe a new name. No i8.

Theyre about the same but 3820 is more expensive beacuse 2011 socket mobo.

i happily own an i7-3820 and its very good. overclocks well and its perfect for converting video files also for my gaming

despites the 3820s socket which will give you the opportunity for upgrading the 3770k is way more powerful than the 3820 thats for sure!

Not way, theyre actually quite alike. 3820 preforms like other i7 sandys (bit better)but if anything I would go for 3820 beacuse you can upgrade to 3970X later (or 30k). But keep in mind that 2011 mobos are more expensive

the 2011 are indeed more expensive but by going with one 1155 socket you may need to get a new motherboard and a cpu afterwards for upgrade!actually i have made some benchmarks myself between these two cpus and the 3770k is more powerful in some fields like rendering its way faster!in gaming i really dont its an i7 totally not a gaming cpu so not a big deal!
