Hi Everyone! I recently started to look into building a computer from the ground up to avoid the common mark up prices. My hope for this computer is for it to be a good gaming setup. I don’t plan on doing any kind of photo editing whatsoever. I have no experience building but from what I've read here, everyone says doing it yourself is the best way to learn. My price range tops out at 1,300.00 USD.

I stopped at my local Micro Center yesterday with a basic list of the parts I was thinking of using. The sales rep gave me some additional recommendations which are listed below.

Graphics Card – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 – 299.99

Processor – Intel Core I5-3570K – 189.99

Motherboard – ASRock Z77 Extreme4 – 94.99

RAM – Crucial 8GB 4x2 D3 1600 DIMM CL9 – 59.99

Memory – Samsung E 128GB SSD 840 PRO2.SATA3 – 149.99 ; Toshiba 1TB 3.5” 7200 HDD – 59.99

Power Supply – Antec HCG 750W ATX – 99.99

Case – Cooler Master HAF912 Mid Tower ATX Computer Case – 57.99

Optical Drive – LG 24x Super Multi Internal SATA DVDRW DL Drive – 15.99

OS – Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1 OEM – 99.99

Total after tax – 1,202.28

What do you guys think of this setup? Any recommendations/advice on the parts or building my first setup?

Thanks!

750w is overkill. You could use 600w no problem. Antec, is a good brand as is Corsair,XFX, Seasonic. Stay away from others.

That GPu is $100 overpriced. Buy a GPu online. Microcenter always overprices GPUs. For that price you can get an hd 7950 with will BLOW AWAY the gtx660.

Everything else looks great!

Don't spend that much on a motherboard

Should I just upgrade to the HD 7950 then?

This is what MC is giving away with the HD 7950 - Buy this video card, get Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, BioShock Infinite, and Crysis 3 FREE!

Is the 750w overkill if I plan on upgrading with additional drives in the future ? I guess I dont entirely understand how much voltage will be necessary in the future...
