I installed a new internal hd into a Toshiba Satellite a505 laptop and restored it with the recovery disks. Once restored, I noticed that I was unable to connect to the internet and the display was as if I had booted in safe mode. So i checked the drivers and there was a warning beside each. I tried updating the drivers(using thumb drive due to no internet) and was unsuccessful. I then installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology, disabled driver signatures and was able to update windows and drivers and connect to the internet. However, i now have to disable driver signature each time i boot or else i am back to no internet and warning beside drivers.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated

It's odd that you could not install the drivers manually the first time, exactly why not? Did you use the right drivers for Vista?

Thanks hangthe9.
I used the recovery disks that came with the laptop. I assume those contained the correct drivers unless toshiba put the wrong disks in the box. Either way, I was able to install the correct drivers once I disabled driver signatures. Could this be a read/write issue with the new hd?

Should not be the hard drive, make sure you get the drivers from the web site, not the ones off the disk. And go though Windows update as well if you have not to get any system file updates.

All of the drivers are updated(not from the disk) and windows is updated. However, there is still a driver signature issue.

Anyways, I decided to new install of windows(not from boot disks) and everything is functioning. Thanks
