I was just wondering what would be a good CPU to get since I'm upgrading from a gtx 550ti to a radeon 7970 ghz edition (Sapphire Vapor X). People told me my AMD 6100 would bottleneck the card, is that true? If I do have to get a new CPU, I'm open to both Intel and AMD. Thanks,

Depends whether you want an AMD or Intel rig. If you go with AMD go with the FX-8350 if you go with Intel go with the i7-3770k or i5-3550k. All of these CPUs can be OC'ed to decent levels if you have the right cooling :)

Thanks a lot for the quick reply :). Do you think it would be worth it for me to get an i7 or should I just go with the fx 8350?

Thanks for the ultra quick responses! I really appreciate it. I tend to favor AMD processors, so I'll go for the FX-8350. Do you know any good places where I can sell my current CPU?

Depends what country you're in; Personally I would suggest Ebay :)

I live in the US, but my experiences with e-bay aren't so good. My dad sold a Macbook Pro there and they taxed him so much he just about broke even with about $5 profit (he bought a used one, upgraded the RAM and sold it). Do you think Amazon would let me sell mine?

I have no idea :( I never tried selling anything to Amazon :( Sorry.

Given the AMD GPU, the OCD in me would have to get an AMD CPU to pair it with. But that's just me.

Yeah, I have to get an AMD CPU because they are cheaper and my MB doesn't even support Intel CPUs.

Sorry to bother you guys again, but would an i5 2500k bottleneck the GPU? I am thinking of going with an intel CPU now, and I have an Asus Sabetooth 990 FX motherboard right now, so I would have to get a new one right? Which motherboard should I get?

The i5-2500k would not bottleneck...

However, if you have the sabertooth motherboard...I would really hate to see you waste that and go to intel...you could likely get 5.0 GHz out of the FX8350 with a good setup on that board.

Wow, I am not at all thinking today. I just realized how good my motherboard is and decided to stick with AMD. I feel stupid for my last post. I also just saw that the NVIDIA gtx 780 released, so would it be worth the extra cash to get it, or should I just get the 7970?

Depends on how hardcore of a gamer you are. And in my opinion the amd 8350 which just got today to switch out my fx 6100 would not be a good pair with the 780. It would bottleneck in my opinion. And it would be better for you to pair amd with amd car, you can crosfire 2 high end amd cards and it will still be cheaper then buying the 780.

It doesnt matter if you pair AMD cpu with AMD graphics card or Intel cpu with AMD graphics card. You'll not gain any performance just by pairing an amd cpu with amd graphics card.

The FX8350 will not bottleneck a GTX 780. The GTX 780 is not that much better than the HD 7970 GHz edition. You won't bottleneck there. If the FX8350 can run 4 HD 7970s and not be bottlenecked...then the GTX 780 won't bottleneck it either.

I'll be doing some 3D modeling for a game I am making, but I will mostly game. Would 8GB of RAM be enough for the 780?

If you're doing heavy rendering you'll want more like 16 GB...if it's more a hobby thing, then 8 GB is fine. Though, RAM has nothing to do with your GPU...it's really the software for rendering/modeling that needs the RAM.

Well, like the saying goes, you can't trust everything on the Internet. I read somewhere that the recommended RAM for a 780 was 12 GB. Thanks for the info my friend. What cooler should I get for the 8350? I have an Antec Advanced Gaming Case 900 (or something like that anyway.)
