So, I have a Core 2 Quad Q8300 and a GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB. People have told me that there will be some bottleneck. But, I have a question. My screen resolution is 1280x1024, mediocre that is. So the GPU won't unleash its full potential anyway, cause of the resolution. So, does the CPU really matter? I mean, at such resolution, won't I be able to play all games, or most at least, at max settings? I don't know if you understand what I'm saying, but I hope you can answer this question of mine. Thank you!
Actually low resolution is used to test the cpu how well they perform in games, so lower resolution put more load on the cpu rather than on the gpu. I can't say how the load is divided.
What games do you play? If you believe that it will be a bottleneck you could consider to overclock the cpu to 3.0GHz (some say 3.5GHz should be possible) but then you need a after-market cooler.
Q8300 benchmarks - click on the different kind of games and you get a whole picture if it's a or will be a bottleneck.
I made a fast compare to
FX4300 (3.8GHz) vs Q8200 (2.33GHz)
Zalman CNPS14X - silent cooler. 30$ is a good price. two additional or 3 in case the included is not good enough.
I have a Zalman CNPS9000. Is it ok?
It will do; as you overclock make sure to be within the recommended VID Voltage Range (0.8500V-1.3625V) and that it's within 71.4°C. If you got at higher temps and Voltage may shorten the life of the cpu.
I tried to find review about your cooler but could find any.If you truly want to max out the cooling and have the best air cooling possible
NZXT HAVIK 140 might be something to consider as well.
I see, thank you, I'll have that in mind. Btw, a Q9550 will eliminate the bottleneck for sure? In case I come across one in the future.
The extra cache as well as the higher frequency will give you a boost. if you trust Ebay than here is
Q9550 for 123$ (
Q8300 vs Q9550). When it's overclocked it will give even greater boost.
GTX 5
Heh, thanks. Saw this one before, but the seller won't ship where I live. So, since it's better it'll obviously give a greater boost, but will it eliminate the bottleneck issue?
I have update my previous post.
I believe it will be lower, especially if it's overclocked to 3.5GHz and if the games can utilize all cores which the newer games do, such as BF3 Multiplayer, Tom Raider, Crisis 3 and Far Cry 3 are some examples.
It also depends with what you compare to? an i5/i7 will still make the games run at higher fps(for much more depends on the game).
I will look around
Update:
q8200 vs i5-2500K - At stock frequencies Q8200 is a bottleneck in games but also when it comes professional applications but to make fair comparison you to have them both at same frequency.
