Best CPU for this motherboard?

I am looking to get a CPU that will fit this motherboard that i already have from an older computer. I am looking into putting together a budget build so price is kinda limited.
I have this motherboard.

Ouch a 775 socket. Maybe a Q8400, Q9550, or Q9650, but good luck finding them in stock. And they'll be super expensive because they're all discontinued by now. I'd rather just upgrade the motherboard. Be a lot cheaper and better.

yeah i looked into it after i posted this thread. now im looking at CPU motherboard combos. Im actually thinking of going with the AMD Phenom ii x4 Black with the ASRock 760GM-GS3 Micro ATX. That combo seems pretty nice for only a $140 price range. Tell me what you think.

It's a big step up from what you have so I'd take it. But I'd get a better motherboard: (ATX size though. Not sure if you wanted ATX or mATX)

This isnt for me. Because personally id be going with some top dollar stuff. But since this is for a friend of mine he is kind of on a budget but is kinda not. He needs to spend as little money as possible. That's why i was going to get the ASRock motherboard
