assuming those are close to us prices we're looking at about +$50 over comparable lga 1155 boards.

asrock z87 pro3 + a core i5 non-k cpu will make a decent budget combo. better, if intel allows bclk overclocking as well as partial turbo-based overclocking.

Were those prices including VAT?
If so, then they'll be notably lower in the US

Yes, but you didn't point out that these are early release prices. It'll go down over time. The same thing happened with 6 & 7 series motherboard and series before them.

At this point in time... The AsRock Pro3/Pro4 boards seem to be a good deal... considering that the B85 boards aren't that cheaper than the Z87 ones. You could buy one of those boards with a cheap Pentium and later upgrade to a K model CPU.

Hopefully they'll be 21% less in the US. I'd like to include Haswell in my new build but a 5-10% performance improvement isn't worth paying a release price premium for.

the z87 ITX board is the one piquing my interests since it costs the most by $33. What can they fit on there that can justify the price or are we paying for the miniaturization of MBs?

IDC for AsRock or Intel brand boards. They dont come across as geared for the enthusiast. Talk about EVGA or Asus to let it be worth my time.
