Hi guys and gals.

I have been running 1080p on my full HD LED Samsung TV using using some old VGA cable i got with my original custom build years ago now. I needed a longer cable so i purchased a 5 meter (seemingly) well put together one from amazon.

Arrived the other day and did look sturdy in construction, i plugged it in but notice the screen resolution is all funky, i go to change the resolution to 1080 but see the max is 1600x1200 and no option for 1080p.

Anyway.. I plug my old cable back in, hit detect monitor and boom, defaults to 1080p, so i plug the new cable back in and now that seems to be running at 1080.

There is no way on earth i will be fumbling around with 2 cables every time i turn my PC on to get the right resolution.

Does any know why this might be happening or is it simply a dodgy cable?

oh and i had to fiddle with the cable for a while as my picture was yellow even though the connectors were firmly in place (in fact i had to pull it out a bit to get normal colors)

GPU: Radeon 7950 3GB
CPU: AMD FX 6300
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1866mhz

How do you connect a vga cable to a 7950? Are you talking about a DVI cable? 7950 doesn't have an output that is vga and cant imagine why you'd want to use an analog signal anyways.

Hi

Thanks for your reply, I am using a DVI/VGA converter which I have also had for a long time. I plugged it in directly using a spare HDMI cable I had and it set to 1080 but the screen did not fit on the TV and the colours were weird, didn't really look into that though.

I had a similar problem as yours. Go into the amd catalyst control center. Under my VGA displays go to properties and uncheck the Use Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) or driver default checkbox and then select 1920 x 1080 as the max resolution
