Hi there,

hope this is the right forum for this posting, if not please feel free to move/delete my post (wasn’t sure where to post.)

So, I’m seriously considering to purchase a new computer. The current laptop is a Dell XPS 17, 16gb of Ram with a GeForce GT 555M. Is not a blast even though it works.
The downside are:
- Fan drive me crazy.
- It gets slow to handle scenes with lot of particles, and that’s one of my main area of interest.

It works fine with Adobe (AE, PS and so on) but when it comes to deal with 3d (3ds Max, Blender, etc.) I’ve to sit and wait.

Said that, the main question is: laptop or desktop? Could a laptop be good enough?

As reference, here’s a first, rough idea of what I’m looking at:

Hope to hear your thoughts, especially about laptop VS desktop solution for this kind of applications.

Thanks in advance.

you want a desktop not a laptop.

laptop gpus are about half as powerful (if that) as their desktop equivalents and will struggle with 3d.

i would suggest building your own desktop computer and posting your budget and needs in the system/new build forum section. people there will be able to give you a complete parts list.
