I get awesome performance out of my machine already and never had any complaint, I use my pc mainly for browsing, word documents etc. as well as hardcore gaming (Crysis 3, Battlefield 3, Crysis 2, Crysis 1, Call of Duty, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, you get the drift etc.)

Everything I throw at my pc it just handles really well, all games max out and i get minimum 40/50 fps

I know sandy bridge and ivy bridge supercede my i7 as well as the new range of graphics cards available from nvidia and amd, but the thing is I just see no reason to upgrade it at all,

With the new games coming out, splinter cell, watch dogs, battlefield 4, I get the feeling my machine is more than adequate for gaming purposes

Do I really need to upgrade for the sake of having a "new" model. Seems kind of silly.

Opinions please

You already said your answer.

You're already 100% satisfied, and you think the idea of upgrading just for the sake of upgrading is silly.

If you upgrade, your wallet will be lighter and you'll just be again, 100% satisfied. You're moving nowhere. If you're happy with what you have; stay. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Simple answer: Nope.

I have gone through the exact same thing buddy as have a very similar system and was thinking of upgrading but decided to stick with what I have as this 930 has been excellent from day 1 and still doesn't seem to be struggling. The only upgrade I am considering is my GPU as fancying going back to a single card setup but waiting for next gen of cards.

Keep what you got and see what the next gen is saying as there is not huge advantages in terms of your usage. The only downpoint to the x58 boards of course is the lack of decent sataIII support but wouldn't consider that to be worth it on its own tbh
