I'm looking to get this laptop http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/inferno/

I'm going to use it as a desktop replacement and don't like desktops because they are clocked so high and therefore use a lot of power in idle. The I3 3120m uses only around 10W in Idle.

But will it stop the 650M working to its full potential?

The laptop will have an SSD and also 1600mhz RAM.

I'm also worried that the size of the laptop could mean it would overheat easily when the 650M is at full power?

It won't bottleneck your gpu if you're not going to play any heavy games. If you do however, the nvidia GPU can make up a little when you have vsync turned on at 60 fps. Also make sure that your max number of pre-rendered frames is not more than one or two. Works for my desktop Core 2 Duo E7400, which performs about the same. And my GPU (GT520) isn't nearly as good as the GT650m.

And for the overheating: if you don't overclock anything, it will never overheat, but you may once every 6 months take it to a local electronics store and ask them to remove the dust from the inside. Don't try it yourself, that might just make you lose your warranty.

Hello Graeme, my real preference for notebook gaming would be at least a Radeon HD 7730M or a GeForce GT 650M—with GDDR5 memory in both cases. Those two GPUs provide enough graphics horsepower to handle every game I can think of at 1366x768 and medium or higher detail settings, and in many cases even 1920x1080 at medium settings will be playable. If you want 1920x1080 with high quality settings (and possibly 4xAA), and you’d really like frame rates of 60FPS or more, you’ll have to go all-in on an HD 7950M or GTX 675MX at the very least.
