Didnt vote, not on it/dont have it.
Been on the innerweebles too long to do such things anymore, would rather call/email or see people.

At one point in time, I would have been one of the first, but meh

Im not on facebook and im a 24 yo male.

I find that most people I knew arent worth keeoping up with, being on the move and meeting new people is easier without having obligations to people from highschool.

Its a powerful tool no doubt. On the other hand how much do you pay for Facebook? If you arent paying anything for a service then you are the product being sold. Facebook is the largest invasion of privacy in the world and we knowingly hand out personal details with no problem.

OT, warm down there mingo?

I had a FB account for 3 days then deleted it after I was added by 7000 people wanting to buy chickens from me or propose marriage.

Quite possibly my kids hacked my account ...

It was a difficult time but I worked through it and am a better chicken farmer now with a new wife.

This is of course a complete fabrication but my point is FB could ruin your life.

My wife has a FB account ... I personally think that sums it up nicely.

The largest corporation invested in Facebook is a front company of the CIA. So, I make fun of my family by calling it CIA-Book. Why freely give over intelligence and privacy to the government or anyone else for that matter?

Careful OMG, next youll be getting redflagged by the IRS

No. Facebook the company is merely a massive data-collecting marketing company that you would be an idiot to voluntarily give data to. Also, anything that you put on a social network site is "out there" permanently for anybody to see, either on the hosting company's (Facebook's, etc.) servers or on web cache services. Those silly pictures and comments you posted on some social network site in high school or college are going to be looked at by potential employers and will be used against you. Remember the economy sucks, you are in a lot of debt, unemplolyment is high, and companies are very willing to sit on cash and not hire new employees. They want to have any excuse to weed down their huge number of applicants down to a manageable number. A video of you doing a keg stand five years ago during freshman year of college is as good of a reason as any to weed you out of the pool of potentially interviewable as any. So stay off Facebook, etc. for your own good.

BTW Jaydeejohn, the IRS harassment is nothing new other than the fact it finally came to light. Many other types of groups have been hassled by the IRS ever since The Anointed One took office. In my line of work, the eeeeeeeevil physician-owned practices and hospitals, pharmaceutical firms, and medical device manufacturers have been all been harassed by CMS and the IRS because the Obamunists have been trying to drive entrepreneurship out of the healthcare sector. They want the market to be comprised of humongous conglomerates and their PACs who donate heavily to the Democrats to buy legislation (e.g. the American Medical Association and American Hospital Association) punishing their competition rather than individuals and small groups who are largely conservative and don't give any graft to the Democrats. I hope these scandals help to put the adults back in charge of the government in 2016 rather than the bunch of kleptomaniac two-year-olds currently occupying it.

Where does mu get the time to write these essays when we are relying on him to come up with new technology to speed up our PC's?

We chained him in his cubicle but did anyone think to install WorkPace on his PC ... to reduce his malicious keystrokes??

Sheesh !!

Stretchbreak time for you buddy ... step away from the PC !!

I have a few engineers in my adjacent pod ... we keep their headphones on them and just dose them with coffee etc ... let them up to go to the printer or the toilet ... otherwise they just get into trouble.

Found a couple of them yesterday pushing the lift buttons and listening to the lifts going up and down ... civil engineers obviously.

:)

Well, how about a money maker?
Create an app that scrubs all things dubious from former FaceBook accounts, and call it FaceLift?

My employer actually does have a bunch of monitoring software on my computer at work, as they do all computers with the possible exception of the ones used by administration. I don't post anything from work for that very reason, that and 99% of the Internet is blocked. That's not due to IT, it comes from Legal.

We do have issues with very poor performance with our computers at work that I have tried to fix. Our programs run from "the cloud" using RDP over a VPN. Nothing actually runs locally- your PC is essentially a dumb terminal. We were running about 80 clients at 1280x1024 over two bonded T1s (and mostly routed through two WAPs) to a massively oversubscribed cloud server. We needed to massively increase our Internet bandwidth, get more and faster WAPs (or move some clients to wired NICs), and put a boot up the cloud services vendor to improve performance. What did Corporate do? They got us new convertible tablets to replace many of the older wired PCs (facepalm) So we blew the entire budget on something that actually works worse due to the increased WLAN congestion.

Plus, those arent even upgradible.
Its a fad, and having DT in some businesses will be seen as a money saver, plus the productivity/perf difference.
Just a hunch from friendly neighborhood mod

Facebook is for people that have no direction in life.
May 23, 2013 11:54:21 PM

It does open some business opportunities so try being more open-minded towards it.

In my office, about 70% of the employees, men and women, constantly stop working to update their status on facebook. That's ok with me.I guess that is why I received the promotion and they didn't..My supervisor is old school and hates social media.

Fun Fact about my workplace! We host our own site and anywhere from 25%-35% of our entire network traffic is youtube....

May 24, 2013 5:17:08 AM

I guess it's a way of life in the workplace.
May 24, 2013 5:23:48 AM

We used to block facebook but too many sales guys (And more importantly the management) needed to keep tabs on other companies, other sales guys, vendors etc, so we were forced to unblock it.
May 24, 2013 5:29:45 AM

I understand the professional needs of facebook contacts. It's the others just uploading a pic or status change that irks me.The head of my office said he will address this issue during their reviews.
