my motherboard has a LGA 1156 socket and its currently got a i5 760 ( 2.8 ghz ) quad core. i wanna upgrade to 2nd or 3rd gen i5 but most of the stuff im looking at has a 1155 socket? ( had my eyes on a it 2500k ) . so whats the best processor i can get with a 1156 socket.

ignore budget and powersupply.

They're pretty close. I think it's not worth the upgrade.
If you want to know what upgrade will be woth the money check ou this cpu hieracgy chart. As it says there
I don’t recommend upgrading your CPU unless the potential replacement is at least three tiers higher. Otherwise, the upgrade is somewhat parallel and you may not notice a worthwhile difference in game performance.

Your current cpu is rocking in third tier. Meaning there's nothing to upgrade for , as there is no cpus that are 3 tiers higher.
