Unless your using a mobo that still has AGP ports (pre-2004), you can throw any graphics card you like on it and it would be fine. As long as there is a PCI-E 16x connector (guaranteed on any post ~2004 mobo) and sufficient power, your all good for graphics card compatability.

hi can i install a new graphic card pci 30 my motherboard is assus m5a88-m hving pci express 2.0 and want to intall new assus 7770hd 2gb ddr5 graphic card on it will it be compitable....help me plz
my pc config is amd x6 1090t black edition with 8 gb of ram ddr3 , 2tb HD and 500w of powersupply to it....
 
All the PCI revisions are forward and backward compatible, like I said above the only compatibility point between graphics card and motherboard is whether the board has a slot at all.

Your PSU could be an issue, make sure it has a PCI-E 6-pin connector.
