DDR2 with AM3+

Recently I have been upgrading my pc with new mobo gpu psu etc. My specs are:

Amd pentium dual core processor
As rock n68c gs fx motherboard
2gb ddr2 ram
Corsair cx 430 builder psu
Radeon 6670 1gb

Everything has been working fine up until I purchased an amd fx 6300 am3+, I flashed my bios to the most recent update and fitted it and tried to boot, however all I received was a blank screen; all the fans where whirring and case lights came on though.

I'm wondering if you must use ddr3 ram with am3+ proccessors, my motherboard supports both ddr2 and ddr3 so upgrading isn't an issue.

Any help/insight would be appreciated please help

You had AMD Pentium? That's a rarity...

And yes, you need to use DDR3 memory with that processor.

Yeah I've had it for years and needed an upgrade, shame I had to go through all this hassle but I guess it's a learning curve.
