ok so im thinking of getting a new laptop and im also considering the option of gaming. now i know building your own pc is better and cheaper for gaming but still.
So the two laptops ive shortlisted are dell inspiron 14z ultrabook Ci7 and the acer aspire Timeline M5 481TG.

The dell has the 1 GB, AMD Radeon HD 7450M, GDDR5
acer: 1 GB, NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M, GDDR3

i did a little search and found that the nvidia gt 640m is a better card as compared to the amd one cuz it gives more fps. but it is gddr3 so i wanted to ask how much of a difference does the gddr thing make? which of the above cards would perform better (higher fps)?

and incase you need the cpu config..

Dell:
i7-3517U Ivy Bridge
processor speed: 1.9
max turbo freq: 3.1
no. of cores: 2
Memory: 8 GB DDR3

Acer:
Intel® Core™ i5
Processor speed: 1.7
max turbo: 2.6
Memory: 4gb DDR3

so yeah which of the laptops is a better gaming machine tht gives higher fps..
any help would be appreciated,
thanks.

The one with the 640m is better for gaming. According to synthetic benchmarks the 640m is almost 3 times faster than the 7450. I wouldn't expect to play any modern games on high resolution or with high settings for either laptop smoothly.

But doesnt the gddr make any difference? or is it still better even if its ddr3, cuz i heard ddr5 is better?

DDR5 is better but if the card with the ddr3 has more shaders and a high core clock speed it will beat the card with the ddr5. There are also other technical factors to consider.
