I bought a second hand laptop Compaq Presario F700. It came without a hard drive. I bought a new hard drive which is a Hitachi 5K750-750. Will be honest to the fact that I have never worked on a laptop before. It works fine, but I can't get it to recognize the new Hard Drive. Was thinking that a Bios Update might help, but I really am not sure how to do that when I Burn a disc to Boot from. Compaq has an update, and my CD/DVD drive does function, and it will allow me to start to put Vista back on till it gets to looking for the hard drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When Compaq installed Vista the first time, it probably embedded SATA drivers for the hard drive into the system DVD. If you don't have those, you need to slipstream the relevant driver (from HP's website) in your copy of Vista.

Paul Thurrot gives slipstreaming instructions in his Supersite for Windows website http://www.winsupersite.com
