Hello everyone,

I own a Samsung SSD 830 128Gb (for windows) and a WD HDD 1Tb (for games).
Some days ago I deleted everything and did a fresh install of Windows 8 64bit.

And I got confirmation of what I noticed since I bought this rig :
every time I install something (games, programs, windows updates) the loss of space in the SSD is more than the real space required by the application.

After the Windows install, with no programs at all, the space in the SSD was about 88 Gb on the 119Gb available.
Now is 77Gb, and I installed software for only 255Mb!!
The AHCI mode is enabled and the SATA 6Gb/s connected.

Yesterday I found this post, about someone that had the same problem : http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/297374-32-unexplained-loss-space-drive-windows
I followed up what that user did, but with no success (the folder implicated in the indexing service was equivalent to my actual storage...)

Try this: http://www.uderzo.it/main_products/space_sniffer/

It tells you exactly what files is taking up space.

Thanks man,

I used it and I discovered hiberfil.sys, it was about 75% of my RAM (16Gb).
I have read about it, it is useful for fast hybernation recovery, but I never use it...

If your boot drive is your SSD, this can potentially restore a lot of free space. What we're going to do is disable system protection on your SSD.

Directions:
-Go to Start menu and right click my computer.
-Click the properties button.
-On the top left hand side click on System Protection.
-In the Protection Settings portion of the window, click on your C: drive.
-Under that section, click the configure button.
-Click the Turn off system protection check check box and then hit apply.
-Your computer may become unresponsive for a couple of seconds, but afterwards, hit Ok.
-You should see a huge amount of space available to you after that is done.

Hope this helps!
