WD Black SATA 6.0Gb/s ???

Hey I just bought this HD and I am confused about which type of sata cable I should use and what companies are mostly recommanded for that. My mobo is an ASUS M5A99X EVO AM3+ AMD 990X SATA 6Gb/s ... Thanks

  1. Hello, & Welcome to Tom's Hardware!
Well, depends if the HDD is Sata II or Sata III (6Gb/s). Your MB has 6 6Gb/s SATA ports so that's great! If you did get a 6Gb/s drive, then purchase the 6Gb/s data cables. (they work for both). I'd get the shortest length that work (6", 12", 18") for the space. Cost ~ $5.
In every ASUS MB I've purchased, they always have several SATA cables included. If so, they would only supply the faster ones, since all the main SATA ports are 6Gb/s. So those would be fine also.
  2. to my understanding a sata cable is a sata cable and there has been no change to its specifications. its just that shoddily made cable dont work well period. If you have one that works it should work fine on the new drive.

Found what I was looking for. Here's a quick read if your interested.
