I am currently looking for a gaming desktop build that works and has been tested. I'm a complete noob, so bare with me. I would like a gaming desktop build that would last me for quite a long time. I would like to play the most recent games from high to maybe medium settings. My overall objective is to have a gaming desktop that would last me for around 10 years. Of course that would mean after a year or two the graphics card would be outdated, but still I would like to know the best build.

No (especially $800) PC will avoid becoming obsolete for 10 years. Maybe 5 years is a more realistic goal. I wonder if it wouldn't be better to wait for Haswell so you get a motherboard with newer sockets for the purposes of future component upgrades.

There's probably no right answer. Personally, I am waiting for Haswell since it is supposed to come out very soon (I believe it will be available in less than 2 weeks now). I still think it's over-ambitious to expect a gaming PC to last 10 years. I mean, that would be like taking a PC from 2003 and trying to play the new Crysis.

I'm not expecting much, I just want to get the most out of my money, since money is a bit short :/
