New HDD install slows down system BAD!

Trying to install another HDD into my desktop but everytime I do the system slows down drasticly. any help?

list your system specs, new HDD make and model#, where you're trying to install it (port), what mode your ports are in, what OS you are using...

The comp is out dated just using it as my htpc.
OS: Vista
MOBOFI CFX3200 M2/G Infinity
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor
RAM:5 GB DDR2
current HDD- Maxor 250 GB sata 3.0 6V250F0 plugged into sata port 2
Ive tried numerous hdds:
3.5" Hitachti 250 GB sata 3.0 HDP725025GLA380
2.5" Hitachi 750 GB sata 3.0 HTS547575A9E384
2.5" toshiba 80 GB sata 3.0 MK8052GSX
2.5" WD 500GB sata 3.0 WD50Q0BEVT-00A0AT0
(this one I cant get system to recognize might be dead)

tried plugging them into the port directly below the main (sata 3)
I can get the system to see them (except the 500GBWD) but the boot times drasticly increase along with speed over all sloooooows down.
Not using a raid yet either
