7870xt or 7950?

I'm wondering which one to get. Would a 7950 be overkill for a res of 1680x1050? Would the 7870xt be able to play new games in acceptable settings maybe in about 2-3 years from now? Which one and from what manufacturer?

well 7870 if you are on a budget, but if u can stretch it any day i would go for the 7950 and the price difference is very less between those cards, and in terms of performance and overclock ability 7950 is anytime better than 7870xt, both on vram and bit basis, and one more issue i would like to point out is that you would need a new powersupply for those cards, atleast a good 500 watts atleast.

the 7870 xt performs the same as the hd7950 but it only has 256bits memory interface as opposed to 384bits of the hd7950. The hd7950 should perform better at higher resolution thanks to its 384bit memory interface and 3gb of vram. Its really up to you since they perform the same at 1920x1080 resolution or lower but the hd7950 appears to be more solid and future proof specially if you want to use more vram or if the future games start requiring more memory bandwidth. Sapphire is the brand I recommend for amd gpus but anything would be good in all honesty.

7870xt would do just fine for you .. but having said that if u can stretch ur budget by all means get 7950..and sapphire's best 7950 model is the vapour-x one..

any one of them should be good, get the one you can find cheapest. Try getting one with dualx cooling system tho

but aren't they pretty noisy? I have seen my friends old reference hd6950 noisiest gpu ever.

I reckon extra $10 is worth it for the dualx model which is proven to be one of the best cooling systems.

yeah, my stock voltage 7970 OCed only runs at 65C at full load... I would get dualX cooler as shamsmu suggested

I have these sapphire 7970 Ghz Ed vapor-x models.. they are noiseless..almost!
