How reliable is a custom-built pc?

This is my first custom built pc, and i was wondering how reliable it would be. I want it to last me at least 5 years. But the problem is, my budget is 300 dollars, and I'm looking to get a pc that will play moderate games (team fortress, battlefield 3, medium settings)

do you think a self-built pc under 300 would be reliable in the long run?

Custom-built PCs are as reliable as the amount of research that has gone into them.

If you know what you're doing, you're able to build very good PCs.

I think your budget is very low and I doubt you could make a build last for that long.

For a budget of 700+$ I think you could achieve what you're wanting to achieve:

A long-lasting PC, which will play those games very well.
