Back in 2008 I bought Shuttle PC which I am using now as my main desktop.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856101066
It has Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz, 8GiB of system memory (DDR2) and GeForce 210.

Recently I have the need for 4-bay NAS storage for my video/audio collection. First I was looking at some of those Synology DiskStation with 4 disk bay (DS413) and it cost $499.99 without disks. But then I thought... what if I use my current desktop as NAS (since it also has 4 SATA connections and space for 4 HDDs) and build myself a new Desktop PC instead.

What do you all this? Buy Synology or some other pre-built NAS or use my 2008 Shuttle PC instead?
Or... use $499.99 toward NAS or new PC?

PS. I want to have eventually 4 x 4TB drives.

PS.. I meant using current desktop as NAS only. That is.. if I will end up using my current desktop as NAS, I will look to build a new desktop PC.

To have a big storage on your PC you have will slow it as well, because the system always read the storage for any process.
