APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: this week or next
BUDGET RANGE: prefer something less than $100 after Rebates but i would go 130

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming-- I play Dungeon and Dragons online and would like to be able to run at full settings now and for the next year or so till i buy another desktop

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: Nvidia Geforce gt 430 with 1gb memory and have a 500 watt psu

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: Compaq Presario SR5710Y Desktop PC with the iris8 motherboard, please see the following link for full specs:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=za&dlc=e...
Note: i upgraded the psu to 500 watts and the ram to 3gb

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: bestbuy, newegg or tiger direct...Im in the USA
OVERCLOCKING:No, motherboard does not support

MONITOR RESOLUTION:1400x800 is what i run at now in game

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I read the Best PCIe Card: from May and it suggested

Radeon HD 7750 at $95
Radeon HD 7770 at $115
GeForce GTX 650 Ti at $135

Would any of these be the best? Also, what kind of appreciable performance increase can I look to see? If there's not a big jump from the $95 card vs. the $135 please say so...THANKS!

It's important to know the make/model of your '500W' power supply. Some are highly over-rated and not suitable for more powerful cards. But the HD 7750 should be fine with any good quality 300W PSU or better. So I would suggest that card until we know the +12V rail amp capacity of the PSU. There should be a label on the side of the PSU with the specs. The +12V rail (or rails) is the most important for determining the size card you can use.

Also, if the PSU doesn't have a PCIe 6 or 8 pin power cable, you will be limited to a card that gets all its power from the slot itself (like the HD 7750) But at monitor with resolutions up to 1440x900, it should be quite adequate.

Btw, your link was broke. I assume this is your PC originally: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01616203

Yes, that's what I was afraid of. It is a low quality PSU. Definitely not a strong 500W PSU. With those specs, I would put it more in the 350W category. Best to stay with the HD 7750 so as not to have it "fail" and take some other PC components along with it. Powerful gfx cards can be the most electrically demanding +12V component of the PC.

Cluthc,
Thanks for the information. Very useful and keeps me from making a critical error. In your opinion, going from the geforce 430 1gb card to the HD 7750, how much difference is that going to make? I'm not sure how comparable they are and hence don't know how much of a quality increase it will make. Do you have an opinion on that? Thanks again for your time.

A Big Difference! Here is an "on-paper" comparison of the two cards: http://www.hwcompare.com/11762/geforce-gt-430-vs-radeon-hd-7750/
And if you want to see how Tom's Hardware ranks them for gaming, check the hierarchy chart out: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

Depending on what resolution your monitor is, you should be able get smooth game play with mid to high settings in modern games... even better in older games.
