There is no driver available for Windows 8 on this model. HP stopped its driver support with the 3400c on Windows XP.

You can use VueScan (it's even recommended on the HP website as an alternative for out of support scanners). http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/hp_scanjet_3400c.html

Hi I have a question about your solution. I am running windows 8.1 and trying to get my scanjet 3400c to work. I downloaded Vuescan but it didn't recognize my scanner. I went back to the vuescan page for the scanjet 33400c and it said that you needed a HP scanner driver to make it work. I was unsure of what that meant - whether I needed a driver for the scanjet 3400c or if any hp scanner driver for 8.1 would do?
My netbook is the hp pavilion ts11 running 8.1 64bit if that helps.
I would be grateful for any advice you could give me.
