Black screen when mains plugged in

hi i have a asus k55a everytime i plug the mauns in the screen goes black.i still have sound just cant see anything.PlEASE HELP

What is the mains ? It is the adapter or an external screen.

Was it always like this or is this something that came up recently? If by "mains" you mean the AC adapter, I would test the laptop with another one to see if it behaves the same way. It could be a bad charger, but then it could be a bad display.
